About Tangled Web Genealogy

Genealogy is the study of family ancestral lines. Created by Professional Genealogist Sherri Steele, Tangled Web Genealogy takes traditional family history research to the next level, incorporating genetic / DNA testing, to expand the potential for discovering your family’s history.

About Genealogist Sherri Steele

Sherri has 20+ years of experience as a genealogist and fifteen years working with DNA as a genealogical tool. She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a professional background in academic research, database management, and project management. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), the Colorado Chapter of APG (CAPG), the National Genealogical Society, NEHGS, the International Society of Genetic Genealogy, and several regional genealogical and lineage societies. Sherri employs the Genealogical Proof Standard and follows the APG code of ethics.

Her interest in genealogy began by investigating her family history, and DNA testing. She found her calling in the archives, paging through old documents, spinning microfilm reels, and scrolling through online digitized records. Sherri started offering her expertise to family and friends to help them learn about their family history. Tangled Web Genealogy is an extension of her years of experience and passion for helping connect individuals with their ancestors and relatives.

Her areas of genealogical expertise include Genetic Genealogy: using DNA test results in combination with traditional genealogical methods to identify biological relationships between individuals.  Sherri assists those with unknown parentage in identifying and locating their birth families, using DNA testing. Tangled Web Genealogy has helped adoptees, foundlings, donor-conceived individuals, and those with unexpected DNA results.

Using traditional genealogy Sherri helps clients who have hit brick walls in their research, build out their family tree, and assist clients in meeting the requirements for joining lineage societies, including the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. She’s identified Civil War veterans in military service records and pension documents, located families’ Revolutionary War Patriot records, and found many ancestors documented in ship manifests and passing through Ellis Island, and other ports of entry, as they immigrated to the United States.
