Below are step-by-step instructions on how to download your Ancestry.com family tree, and save it as a GEDCOM file to your computer.
Following this link will open Ancestry in a new window, and take you directly to Step 3- https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree
1. Click on TREES in the main menu
2. Click on Create & Manage
3. On the My Trees tab locate the family tree you would like to download
4. To the RIGHT of this tree name, under the TOOLS column, click on TREE SETTINGS
5. This will take you to the Tree Info tab.
6. On the right of the page, under Manage your tree, Click on the Green Export tree button.
6. It may take a moment or two for the file to be created by ancestry. Once it is ready to download a new green button will appear on the screen titled Download your GEDCOM file.
8. Click on this button, select a folder on your computer where you want to save the file. You may want to make a note about where you have saved the file.
9. Download tips:
If the “File Download” window does not appear and Windows automatically downloads a text file:
Right click on the “Download your GEDCOM file” button.
Select “Save Target As…”
A “Save As” dialog box will display. Select a location for the file that you will be able to find later, such as “Desktop.” Then give the file a name and click on Save.
